Detailed Program Information

THERAPEUTIC HORSEBACK RIDING (TR)

These classes are designed for groups of up to 3 riders who have disabilities and need extra assistance in order to learn the skills involved in riding and playing with horses.

Our system of grouping riders is as follows:

Level 1: A Level 1 student needs two or more volunteers, may need hand-over-hand assistance, constant verbal and / or physical support, and unable to perform the majority of tasks without assistance.

Level 2: A Level 2 student needs 1 - 2 volunteers, needs intermittent verbal and / or physical support, and can perform tasks with some assistance.

Level 3: A Level 3 student needs 1 volunteer, is able to perform most tasks with verbal assistance, and is starting to initiate routine tasks without being asked.

Level 4: A Level 4 student is working towards independent riding and horsemanship skills. They need 1 volunteer or a "spotter", and are able to perform most tasks with minimal assistance.

Level 5: A Level 5 student is independent, can tack up and ride with the supervision of the instructor. They can follow directions extremely well and do not need volunteer assistance to ride. Level 5 students should participate in the Horsin' Around program (see details below).

HORSIN' AROUND:

This program is designed for Level 5 students, as well as typical  beginner and intermediate kids and adults. Volunteers are welcome, too! This program is for people who want to learn the basics of riding and handling horses. Students will be grouped by age and ability for group lessons. Private lessons are also available. Classes utilize natural horsemanship methods and focus on empowering students to be well-rounded equestrians, including groundwork and horse management, in addition to riding.

    IMPORTANT REMINDERS:

  • There are no refunds for missed classes. Your tuition holds your place in class, whether you use it or not. Make-ups are offered only as available.

  • If we are forced to cancel classes due to dangerous weather conditions, your tuition will be credited or refunded.

  • If we are unable to ride due to inclement weather, arena activities will be substituted with barn activities.
