Our programs are designed to meet the individual needs of each rider. This is no pony ride! Group and private lessons are offered to riders with and without special needs. Programming is offered year round and divided into 8 week riding sessions. In additon to riding, our hour long lessons include horse safety skills as well as the care and handling of horses.

Curriculum is developed with written goals and objectives to meet the needs of each rider. Our instructors are certified therapeutic riding professionals and are required to complete 20 hours of continuing education each year. Our volunteers attend regular training sessions and are required to have fingerprinting and background checks. Learn about our wonderful staff.

Therapeutic Horseback Riding

Our Therapeutic Horseback Riding program is geared towards individuals with a variety of physical and cognitive disabilities. Typically students are between the ages of 5 and 21 years old, but adults are also served if their needs can be met. Therapeutic Horseback Riding students use their abilities to learn the actual skills involved in riding a horse. This is not just a pony ride! The active participation required by riding allows our students to benefit from the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social aspects of horseback riding. A therapeutic riding student may need two or more volunteers, hand-over-hand assistance, as well as verbal and/or physical support to safely ride a horse. Lessons focus on encouraging riders to be as independent as possible, and can include grooming and tacking, crafts, formal riding instruction, games and exercises on horseback, sensory trail rides, and horse management. Lessons emphasize natural horsemanship techniques, helping riders safely interact with horses from the ground as well as in the saddle.

Horsin’ Around

Our Horsin’ Around program is designed for independent riders with special needs, as well as typical beginner and intermediate youth and adults. Riders in the Horsin’ Around program often include siblings of students in the Therapeutic Horseback Riding program, volunteers, and 4-H members. Lessons focus on learning natural horsemanship methods both on the ground and in the saddle and can include games and activities as well as videos and demonstrations. Most classes are taught using English style riding techniques and emphasize learning to ride in balance and rhythm with the horse. Horsin’ Around lessons focus on enabling students to be well-rounded equestrians so they can take what they have learned and apply it to anywhere they encounter horses.

StableMates is a new program designed to help people ages 7 and up learn about horse management. Participants learn everything from A to Z regarding the health, safety, and care of horses. This non-riding program enables participants to help care for the horses used in our riding programs.

Shane's Cavalry: This brand new program serves our disabled veterans and their families. Program offerings may include therapeutic riding, drill teams, trail riding teams, and family programs.

Our horses are selected and trained specifically for our programs. They receive on-going training and exercise to ensure they are mentally and physically ready for their jobs. Get to know our horses.

State of the art equipment is utilized and adapted as needed to encourage each of our students to be as independent as possible. Our reputation for high quality services and safety speaks for itself!
