The Benefits of Therapeutic Equestrian Activities

The active participation required by riding a horse enhances motivation and allows individuals a chance to extend their dreams beyond the confines of their disability. Equine Assisted Therapy uses the medically acknowledged benefits of therapeutic equestrian activities to enhance the lives of people with disabilities. All participants benefit from the physical, social, emotional and cognitive aspects of riding, driving, or partnering with a horse.

  • Improved balance, posture, motor and trunk control, alignment and coordination.
  • Improved hand-eye coordination, speech, endurance and listening skills.
  • Improved muscle relaxation and strength along with cardiovascular system gains.
  • Increased self-esteem and confidence results from accomplishing the challenging and enjoyable task of partnering with a horse.
  • Communication and social skills are enhanced, with the opportunity for recreation and friendships.
  • An emotional bond is developed between horse and rider, promoting trust, unconditional love, and responsibility.
